Divot

Grass displaced after a shot

Pronunciation

/ˈdɪv.ət/

Definition

A piece of turf displaced when a club strikes the ground during a shot. Proper etiquette requires golfers to replace their divots or fill them with a sand/seed mixture. Playing from another golfer's unfilled divot is considered an unlucky lie.

Example

"He replaced the divot after his shot."
