Nearest Point of Relief

Closest spot for taking a drop

Pronunciation

/ˈnɪər.ɪst pɔɪnt əv rɪˈliːf/

Definition

The reference point closest to where the ball lies where there is no interference from the condition (obstruction, ground under repair, etc.) being avoided. The player then gets a one club-length relief area from this point, no closer to the hole.

Example

"He determined the nearest point of relief from the sprinkler head."
