Provisional Ball

Second ball after potential lost shot

Pronunciation

/prəˈvɪʒ.ən.əl bɔːl/

Definition

A second ball played when the original might be lost or out of bounds. Playing a provisional saves time by avoiding the need to return to the original spot if the first ball cannot be found. If the original is found in play, the provisional is abandoned.

Example

"He hit a provisional ball after slicing into the woods."
