Bounce

Angle of club sole

Pronunciation

/baʊns/

Definition

The angle between the leading edge of the club and the lowest point of the sole. Bounce prevents the club from digging into turf or sand by allowing the sole to glide through. Higher bounce (12-16 degrees) is better for soft conditions and bunkers, while lower bounce (4-8 degrees) suits firmer conditions.

Example

"The high bounce wedge worked well in the soft sand."
